FAQs & Guidelines
Welcome to the DC Universe Rarepair Exchange! The DCU Rarepair Exchange is an event to celebrate pairings and trios that are underappreciated or underprovided for in the DCU Fandom. The Exchange is an opportunity to have more content produced for rarepairs! How does it work?Content creators signing up for the Exchange will be asked to select three rarepairs or trios they are interested in receiving a Gift for. The Gift they are given will be for one of these rarepair preferences. Gifts can take the form of written fics or artworks. All creators who signed up will have their preferences assigned to a Giftor, and will be assigned a Giftee themselves. You’ll then have one month to prepare your Gift! What counts as a rarepair? For the purposes of the Exchange, a rarepair is any pairing or trio that returns less than 100 results on their Relationship Tag on Archiveofourown.org. In order to ensure Giftor and Giftee are successfully matched up, we are unable to accept any 4+ poly groups at this time.Rarepairs can be platonic, romantic and/or sexual pairings/trios.If you are unsure your pairing/trio qualifies as a rarepair, please Ask the Mods. How much do I have to write/create?Gifts must be a minimum of 1K words for fics, but there is no word limit if Giftors choose to write more. Alternatively, Giftors may submit one completed artpiece as their Gift, but additional artworks are not discouraged. How will I know what my Giftee wants for their Gift?Content creators will be asked for their rarepair preferences for their Gift, as well as any triggers and trope suggestions. These should guide your assigned Giftor in creating your Gift.Content creators will also be asked to list five characters of preference, and Mods will do their best to ensure at least one character in your Giftee’s rarepair is one of those five characters. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee both/all members of the pairing or trio are a preference. If there are no options for the characters you list, the Mods will contact you directly.Mods will give Giftors the option to exclude any hard content triggers as well. What’s the deadline?Gifts must be completed by midnight September 25th (GMT). Mods will check in with participants on the 26th September to confirm their Gifts are completed. Giftors may release their Gifts from midnight September 30th (GMT).Please refer to the Dates for the full schedule.Ready to Get Started? If you’re interested in creating content for the DCU Rarepair Exchange, Sign Ups for the 2023 Exchange will open August 1st (GMT) and close at midnight August 20th (GMT). Giftors will be contacted by the Mods to assign a Giftee by midnight August 25th (GMT).

Assignment Information
Giftors are assigned Giftees based on compatibility. We’ve done our best as moderators to maintain a double blind assignment process, but we do accept that some Giftors and Giftees will match up better than others. We’ve made every effort to give each Giftor at least one compatible rarepair.Giftors and Giftees are not interchangeable. That means that your Giftee is not necessarily also your Giftor in return. Some assignments are looped (simply because of overlapping interests), but many are not. Please don’t assume your Giftee is also your Giftor.Do not contact your Giftee about their Gift before the release deadline (September 30th). If you have any major concerns or roadblock questions, please direct them to the moderator who contacted you, and they will ask the Giftee directly and anonymously on your behalf. To reduce traffic, try to rely on the information provided as much as possible, and only direct questions to the moderator if you’re having significant difficulty. That said, we’re at your disposal!Use your Giftee’s wishlist suggestions to guide you in drafting your Gift. You are not required to fill all of your Giftee’s suggestions or follow them to the letter; they are intended to inspire you, not constrain you. As the Giftor, you have creative license to create whatever you feel best fills your Giftee’s request. Please make every effort to exclude your Giftee’s triggers. Remember that these triggers are provided in confidence, and that they should not be shared outside this event. As moderators, we expect Giftors to treat these triggers seriously and considerately, even if you do not share the triggers yourself. Please check what ratings (Gen, SFW and/or NSFW) your Giftee has requested, and abide by those ratings. You only need to select one rating for your Gift. If your Giftee has asked for a rating that you have not selected (e.g. NSFW), you do not have to fill that rating; but you must fill any others.Your Gift must be centered on your Giftee’s rarepair. Whilst side-pairings are not forbidden, they shouldn’t detract from the core rarepair. Please consider pragmatically before including any sidepairs. You may create a Gift for any of the rarepairs requested by your Giftee. You are not obligated to choose the one that matches your requested characters. If you prefer a different rarepair of the three requested, feel free to choose it.If you find yourself stuck on your Giftee’s preferences, try to refer to previous content they’ve liked or bookmarked for their rarepair as a guide. Keep in mind that this is your Gift, however, so don’t feel pressured to replicate any existing fics or artwork. At the end of the day, your Giftee is just eager to see their rarepair together, through the lens that you design - so don’t overthink it, and trust your vision. If you suspect you know who your Giftor may be, do not contact them before they release your Gift. Please be aware that discussing any particular rarepairs in servers or forums may alert Giftees to who their Giftor is, and whilst it’s not discouraged, please be mindful.Reminder that written Gifts must be 1000 words minimum, and artwork Gifts must be a completed piece. Moderators will check in with you on September 25th to ensure your Gift is mostly completed. If you are concerned that you may not finish on time, or that you absolutely cannot fulfill your assignment, please contact the moderators as early as possible so that we can arrange a pinch hit, or coach you through completing your Gift.Above all else, enjoy yourself! This Gift is as much for you as it is for your Giftee, and we’re thrilled to have you be a part of the DCU Rarepair Exchange! If there’s anything we can do as moderators to assist you, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We will be reaching out to you directly from August 20th to August 25th to release assignments. Please be patient with us at this time, and try to be prompt with responding to accept your assignment. And once again, thank you very much for participating! This Exchange wouldn’t be possible without you!
